100% Chardonnay
from the Grand Cru vineyards of Avize
> 4 years bottle aging on the lees
Dosage: 4 g/l
Named after a daughter of the familyCuvée 01 Apolline Grand Cru d'Avize is a lightly dosed champagne with a subtly chalky, floral nose.On the palate, the champagne impresses with immense freshness and a range of aromas that includes both the character of the terroir and great elegance.
Nicola FEB24: Aromatic, creamy, full-bodied with a straightforward finish, has a slightly matured aspect due to the oxidative style.
Moritz FEB24: More mature than the last releases: Wonderful aromas of hayflower, white almond, and fresh garden herbs. Despite the light, well-integrated oxidative notes, the Apolline comes across quite fresh and straightforward, creating a wonderful symbiosis between nose and palate.
Daniela Dejnega: Typical aromas of aged Chardonnay: creamy, subtly vanilla and also very rich with notes of brittle and buttercream paired with a tight acid structure. Thanks to low dosage and long aging, it never seems too cheesy.
Nicola JUN22: Very nicely developed, great body, complex, clean polished + approachable, great drinkability. Gets richer, more lush when open. Gets even more drinkable with time! With beautiful silky honey notes and nutty-brioche finish.
Moritz AUG22: Straight with ripeness, with an incredibly fine aroma of salt lemon and wet limestone. The perlage dances super fine over the tongue, making the wine seem extremely elegant. With time, the nose opens up again. The initial fresh salt lemon evolves into a softer grilled lemon. This is joined by notes of salted caramel and a slightly nutty marzipan finish. Elegant, complex BdB with an incredibly long finish.
Moritz OCT22: The beautiful golden-yellow color immediately catches your eye and you immediately want to put your nose in the glass. A certain warmth flows through the body. The slightly oxidative nose is incredibly exciting. Nutty, notes of salted caramel, wet stones and subtle citrus zest flow towards you. The champagne appears fresher on the palate than on the nose, but the taste reflects the smell incredibly well. The taut, crisp acidity animate to drink and unfortunately the bottle is drunk far too quickly.

This extra brut offers aromas of fresh hazelnuts, white flowers and butter biscuits.
However, its minerality does not allow the champagne to become too lush and gives it a pleasant freshness.
Intense deep golden colour.
Nicola JUN22: Very crisp and straight, acidity present but with nice fruit. Straightforward, not too austere, clean. Becomes fuller and more complex with time!

The Cuvée 05 is Leclaire Thiefaine's vintage champagne and is only produced in the best years.Good structure and very rich in finesse with a pleasant melt on the palate. The perfect accompaniment to fine poultry such as partridge or pheasant.

So that the wonderfully designed maps can also be admired in our country, Champagne Characters has imported these copies directly from the USA.
The card is mounted in a high-quality plastic frame with a passe-partout. Enclosed is an accompanying Avize Grand Cru brochure, which offers a tour of the village's terroir and its unique wines, a complete list of the lieux-dits grown (or partially grown) in the commune, and a directory of its winemakers.

LES CHEMINS D’AVIZE come to enrich the list of our single-vineyard champagnes. We began this approach in 1988 with VV de Cramant, then completed in 1995 with Terre de Vertus and in 1999 by the Rosé de Saignée.
We know for many years that Avize is worth a single vineyard cuvee. In 2009, we bought a smaller press so that we can now separate the juice from our 2 Avize vineyards.
Vinification:
The natural alcoholic fermentation (natural yeast) and the malolactic fermentation begin spontaneously in our casks and our wooden vats. The wines are left on their natural lees for nearly a year and undergo gentle bâtonnages, but no filtering or fining. If the year merits it, this cuvée will be bottled in July as a vintage.
Then the bottles are then taken down into the coolness of our cellars, where the second fermentation and the maturation 'on laths' quietly take place. Each bottle is disgorged manually 6 months before being marketed.
Tasting notes:
JamesSuckling.com, October 2017: Les Chemins d’Avize 2010 || 98 points - A single 0.7ha plot in Avize, this has very assertive citrus and dried peach edge with strong chalky minerals. Extremely vibrant. The palate has richness of fruit with white peach and apricot flavors. Sturdy structure supports ripe and concentrated fruit. Grape maturity is expressed at an elite level here – a gift of the terroir and its interpreters. The acidity is striking, driving a deep, sorbet-like finish. Drink now.
WineAdvocate/Robert Parker - September 2020 || 96 points - Disgorged in October 2019, Larmandier-Bernier's 2013 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d'Avize is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with a lovely nose of citrus oil, fresh apricot, peach and pear, complemented by hints of fresh walnuts and almond paste. Full-bodied, deep and vinous, it's layered and elegantly muscular, with a concentrated core of ripe fruit, racy acids and a long, mineral finish. Pierre Larmandier invariably excels in cool, late growing seasons, so the 2013 vintage was perfectly adapted to his talents.
The Champagne Guide - Tyson Stelzer, 2014-2015: LES CHEMINS D'AVIZE Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2009 : Disgorged on the spot without dosage, hence is unscored, but worthy of at least 95 points.
