This young domain, founded by Alexis Limar, has only existed since 2023, when he took over the vineyards from his grandfather, who retired. The vineyards are located in the villages of La-Neuville-aux-Larris, Cuchery and Belval-sous-Châtillon (Vallée de la Marne) as well as in the Grand Cru village of Mailly-Champagne (Montagne de Reims). Here, he and his wife Jeanne cultivate 3 hectares of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay.
Alexis learnt the winemaking trade at the Viti Campus in Avize and was able to deepen his knowledge on his grandfather's farm. Alexis' first two champagnes from the 2018 vintage already bear his signature. His grandfather also gave him a free hand when he decided to completely avoid the use of pesticides and herbicides in the vineyard. Wherever possible, he dispenses with heavy equipment and concentrates on manual labour in the truest sense of the word.
In the cellar, the wines are fermented spontaneously, neither fined nor filtered and given a long yeast ageing period. Alexis initially matured everything in steel tanks, but since 2023 has exclusively used small Burgundian wooden barrels for fermentation and ageing.
Alexis Limar's champagnes are low in dosage and emphasise minerality and freshness. Restrained fruit and fine yeast notes create balanced, slender and extremely elegant champagnes.
